Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles

Expert: Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles should only be done on the recommendation of a doctor

Topics: COMMENTS OF DOCTORS

Women have always wondered how to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. The thing is that imbuilding (intimate gymnastics) helps to improve health and solve some gynecological problems. Comments by obstetrician-gynecologist, gynecologist-endocrinologist, mammologist, doctor of ultrasound diagnostics of the MedicCity clinic, Ph.D. Veronica Berseneva: "Muscles, ligaments, fascia and connective tissue form the so-called pelvic floor. They perform a supporting function for the uterus, bladder and other pelvic organs. One of the muscles also tightens the rectum and holds its contents.

Many have probably heard about Kegel exercises, which are recommended for patients with urinary incontinence and early prolapse. Exercise can be a lifesaver for them. Recently, thanks to modern technology, strengthening the pelvic floor muscles has become an even more relevant topic. Now gynecologists recommend biofeedback devices for women. They are equipped with a remote control, while on the screen you can see data on muscle contraction, which allows you to adjust the intensity of training, and simulators help a woman to stimulate the "right" muscles.

In what cases are simulators used: for recovery after childbirth (you must first undergo rehabilitation); for the prevention and treatment of prolapse (prolapse) of the pelvic floor muscles (most effective in the initial manifestations). With severe prolapse and severe urinary incontinence, muscle training is less effective and is recommended for patients for prevention.

Unfortunately, prolapse is not limited to older women, although a decrease in muscle tone is associated with the production of sex hormones. And in the climacteric period, they become less, which affects the elasticity of the pelvic floor muscles no less than the elasticity of the skin on the face and neck. Prolapse can occur after pregnancy and childbirth. Intra-pelvic fascia (it consists of connective tissue) keeps everything in full view and relieves the load from the ligamentous apparatus. If after childbirth, the functionality of the fascia is disrupted, the entire load falls on the ligaments. And then prolapse occurs.

Pain, pulling sensations and problems in intimate life are reasons to see a doctor. There are several contraindications to pelvic floor muscle training: menstruation; inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs; postoperative period; pregnancy and early postpartum period. Some people try to strengthen the muscles on their own.

However, if you do the exercises incorrectly, you may not achieve results and even harm yourself. Only a gynecologist will be able to prescribe you a specialized simulator made of quality materials. The simulators are selected individually for each patient. Also, the doctor will prescribe a set of exercises that is right for you. Do not self-medicate and see a specialist. "
