Employees of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of the Kazan Federal University created an electronic mediator between neurons, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta. This middleman, centimeter by centimeter, is not yet suitable for implantation in the human brain because of its large size.

But, according to a researcher at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of the Kazan Federal University, Marat Mukhtarov, in the future the device will have to be reduced to the required size using nanotechnology. It will bring the rehabilitation of people who have suffered brain injuries to a new level.

Indeed, after severe brain injuries, the connections between neurons are lost. An artificially created intermediary will help restore them. It will also help epileptics, people with muscle atrophy and other diseases. It is not excluded the development on the basis of the device of a new artificial intelligence.
